Using WCS without AP

I did some searching but couldnt find what i was looking for so figured i would ask for help.

We use our WCS to deploy software and config on our WLC's (approx 100)

We don't need to manage/monitor the Access Points on our WCS only the WLC are needed.

Is there a way to not have the AP add on a WCS when you add a WLC ?

If not is there another Cisco tools wich can do the job ? Manage centraly only WLC (without the AP) ?

No.. The time we add the WLC into the WCS, the APs will get added.. if u need to get only the WLC details RUN SNMP WALK using any third party tool..

Tks Surenda for the quick answer.

Anyway i'm not familiar with SNMP protocol , so what you suggest is to modify (remove the AP related information) from WLC SNMP information with a third party tools before adding it to the WCS, is that correct ?

At the end to idea remain for me to be able to manage , deploy , update software version for WLC only (not for AP) from a centralised point.

So no Cisco Tools are available to do that ?

Hmmm... Its like this.. The time we add the WLC to the WCS , all the AP will get added.. on top of that.. when we upgrade the WLC code, the AP registered to the WLC wil also reload the gets the latest software version as well..

Wat i meant was.. instead of monitoring the WLC from the WCS u can use SNMP and SNMP WALK..

In case if you want to upgrade the WLC using WCS then we need the WCS but we cannot opt out APs though..

APS are anyway managed through the WLC, so if WCS pushes a config to a WLC, it indirectly pushes it to the APs. So what you're asking makes little sense as anyway it's the APs that you are managing through WCS.

That's the way the license works, as Surendra (+5) already stated.
