Ipads and c1200 series AP: Anybody aware of any issues with Ipads and 1200 series APs?

We are testing Ipads with a select number of users in our enterprise network. The only complaint by two of our users so far is that they are unable to surf the web even after getting authenticated to our c1200 series stand alone AP running IOS 12.3(8)JEC. The same two users have no problem at all with the exact same access at sites that have standalone 1140 and 1130 series AP's.

These Ipad users are only accessing our guest vlan which we open to non-employee guests all the time which work just fine with any abgn card on laptops as well as company blackberry units.

The 1200 is connected to a WS-C3560G-24TS-S.

The same ipads that work at our other locations connect via 1140 or 1130 to WS-C3560G-48PS-S.

On the AP issue the bekow command and see if that helps...

Here is what I saw on the firewall when he was trying to go outside to the internet.

He got an IP prodived by our firewall to allow outside access.

However he was not able to do any web surfing although everyone else at the site was able to do outside access via their laptops and desktops as normal.

He then reset the ipad and got another new ip address. At which time he was able to actually access the web for a very brief time. However after about 10 seconds or so his ability to get web content stopped. Only this person with the ipad has this problem. All others work just fine.

The other person who also goes to this site with his ipad has never been able to do any outside access.

I am at a loss for what this can be.

Was the ipad idle for the 10 minutes and then the user attempted to use it again ?

No, as soon as he rebooted the ipad he attempted the access. He got an IP after associating with the AP but the outside web access was as I described in my previous post.

I am the kinda guy that likes to dumb things down. Can you test this by taking out all the security measures. test and then start to add your layers of security back on ? It just an idea...

I assume you are talking about the security on the AP. That being the case the security in place is not much.

Here is how we have it configed.

dot11 ssid KBCVisitors

vlan 101

authentication open

authentication key-management wpa

mbssid guest-mode

wpa-psk ascii

encryption vlan 101 mode ciphers tkip

What would you recommend that I remove?

I know it sounds silly. But if you have the time and take it back to basics we could see if there is a difference. Also, you dont have CCKM enable on the SSID right ? Apple devices have issues when connecting to SSID with CCKM enabled.

So you are saying remove personal key requirement and set encryption to none and thus open it wide?

I have only a small window of opportunity to actually test what you are suggesting because so few people have these devices.

The one person who has one in my own office here in the U.S. has no problem accessing the web no matter where he goes although he has not been to this office in spain where we are having the issue.

And we had up until a few weeks ago an all 1200 series campus.

I didnt realize this was only happening in a remote location. May not make sense then .. It seems like it working in the US location and users in Spain are the only one having issues/

Yes that is correct, only users in Spain have this issue. It is one office with one 1200 series AP.

Any luck? I am having an identical situation with 1142's and WLC2106. Notebooks connect but iPhones and iPads stop working when more than two Apple devices are associated. TAC claims the WiFi is good and it is an Apple client issue.

I have not heard anyone reporting issues with iphone only the two ipads and only at that one site that only has a 1200 series AP. We are going to replace the 1200 with a 1141N unit in the near future.

If you have the ability to do a capture of the conversation maybe you can isolate the issue. My problem is in Spain and I am here in U.S.

Found the culprit to my problem. Switchport security was enabled. Changed it to trunk mode for the WLC and it works.
