Im traying to change the autonomous AP to LWAP, i have connected my laptop to the WLC and can do ping, i have connected the AP 1121 to the wlc but i can?t do ping, from the wlc to the ap, or from the laptop to the AP, somebody know how to make the ios change?

Hi Alejandro,

These AP's can be converted to LWAPP. We did this exact conversion last summer on about 30 1121G's with the **LWAPP upgrade tool**. Support for the 1121 was added in WLC version 4.0.155.0 Have a look at these related docs;

The Autonomous to Lightweight Mode Upgrade Tool supports a process to migrate an autonomous access point from autonomous mode to lightweight mode. Unlike a VxWorks to Cisco IOS Software upgrade, this process is a Cisco IOS Software upgrade to the existing Cisco IOS Software image-not an operating system "swapout". In converted access points operating in lightweight mode, Cisco IOS Software continues to run on the access point, while LWAPP is used to communicate with a wireless LAN controller. Since LWAPP supports automatic access point configuration, there is no need to retain or convert the original autonomous Cisco IOS Software access point configuration.

Hi im triying to convert the AIR-AP1121G-A-K9 AP, from the version 12.3(4) to 12.3(8) but the AP doesn't work so i move to the 12.3(7), it works fine then i connect mi ap to the switch and with the update tool make the conversion to LWAPP but i doesn't work.

status in leds:

Ethernet LED green

Status LED blinking green

Radio LED blinking red

Hi Rob, i read a file that says i should get back my ap to autonomous and later convert again to LAP but now with a previuos version (12.3(11)JX), cus im using the 12.3(11)JX1, but now in the cisco web site the version 12.3(11)JX is not enable for download, can u help me?

Hi Alejandro,

12.3(11)JX1 is just fine 🙂 I think we might be talking about about 2 seperate problems here. There is the Autonomous to LWAPP upgrade for the 1121 and then getting it to actually join the WLC.

What version of code are you running on the WLC?

Is this the only AP having trouble Joining the WLC?

Do you have any AP's up and running on the WLC?

the version is: 4.1.171.0

yes, i have 5 1131 and works good

Do you have any AP's up and running on the WLC?

yes, 5 1131

but i check the led status in a table and says: boot failure or IOS corrup.

1. i make the upgrade with the upgrate tool v5. the log file says: succesfull upgrade but the AP leds says:boot failure or IOS corrup.

2. i change the upgrade tool to one before v2, everything was fine at the end i check the log file and says, failue: unable to upload the LWAPP IOS.

Good stuff!

You see this error during the upgrade:

FAILED Unable to Load the LWAPP Recovery Image on to the AP

When you see this error, complete these steps:

Verify that your TFTP server is properly configured.

If you use the Upgrade Tool embedded TFTP server, a common culprit is personal firewall software, which blocks the incoming TFTP.

Check if you are using the correct image for the upgrade.

The upgrade to lightweight mode requires a special image and does not work with the normal upgrade images.

Have another close read of this doc (especially the section deatailing the Upgrade Tool);
