Shanky:

Thanks for your reply. Would the "overwrite" part of the archive command get rid of that folder? Also, the tftp transfer shows 100% complete. I'd like to use the web interface, but the size of this image now exceeds the limit. What's more frustrating is that we have a WLSE, but it's a 1105, and won't take 12.3(4).

Upgrade to 12.3(4) cuts off AP - almost every time!

I'm trying to upgrade out 1200b's from 12.2(15)JA to 12.3(4) and after the tftp transfer is complete, I get cut off from the AP, almost every time. I'm using the "archive download-sw /overwrite /reload tftp://192.168.1.101/c1200-k9w7-tar.123-4.ja.tar" command, and the transfer completes ok. Every once in awhile, an access point will actually be reachable when it reboots, but most times I have to hike out there and do a reset, holding down the mode button (and then reconfigure the AP), after which they seem to be fine. We have 100+ of these, and some are in hard to reach places. I can't find any consistency in the ones that fail to come back up - same IOS version, same boot loader image. Any ideas why this is happening, and how I can get this upgrade down manually reconfiguring each one?

Do you have enough space in flash ? When an IOS is already in there it extracts all html files and firmware for the AP into a folder. Typically c1231xxxxxxblahblah...thats how it looks like in sh flash output.

You will need to delete this folder using

delete /recursive /force flash:

and then execute the archive tar command.

Otherwise use the web interface to upgrade, which will automatically erase the old IOS for you.

I had the same problems upgrading three 1200 Ap's from 12.2(15)Ja to 12.3(4)

Turn off the radio's and you should have no problems.

I couldn't get back into units using console or http interface I had to flash back to 12.2(15)JA turn off radio's and then it would flash to new 12.3(4) with no problems.

I told a technician about this problem and they are going to try and figure (duplicate) it in the lab...
