topic Kindle Paperwhite / Hidden SSID in Wireless

Does anyone have experience or suggestions on getting an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite connected to a hidden SSID with WPA2 PSK? This is a guest WLAN anchored on an anchor controller.

We're running 8.0.110.14 on WiSM2/5508 environment with 3500-3700 APs.

We can get the Kindle configured for the hidden SSID, and it sees it and tries to associate. Doing a client debug on the WLC, it would appear it connects just fine, getting into RUN state and getting to the DHCP OFFER part; but it never seems to ACK and complete the DHCP negotiation. The Kindle shows a "Wi-Fi Error" "Your Kindle is unable to connect to your local network <SSID> etc." (Despite the error screen, it appears that it continues to go through an authentication and DHCP loop in the background.)

Our other alternative is a captive web portal on a broadcast SSID, but that doesn't work any better; the Kindle won't navigate from the Wi-Fi setup screen until the connection is established, so using the "experimental browser" doesn't work, we just get the same error.
