That will not work. How I’ve done it in the pst is take your backup of both wlc. The 8540 with minimum config also. Open both up and copy pieces of the co dig from the 8510 to the 8540 and then upload. Verify the config by going through the GUI side by side.

Hi Folks,

I am in the process of moving from 8510 to 8540 wireless controllers, is it ok to backup the configuration from the 8510 and store it on the 8540 ?

or better to do the configuration of the 8540 manually.

Thanks

Aous

This should work but you will need to put a base config on the 8540 first, so you have network access to it to copy the config over to it. Once the config is uploaded to the 8540 it will reload and replace the temp interfaces and config with original config from the 8510. Just make sure you dont have both WLC's connected to the network at the same time in a live network as you will will have duplicate AP Management IP's once the 8540 reloads
