Dears,
if i need to add another controller-WLC to existing one in the network to achieve high availability.
is this need a downtime (restarting the original controller) or not?

N+1 doesn’t require a downtime. SSO does.

Should the two controllers have the same software version ?

Recommandation is to keep the same software version on both WLC else when AP will move from primary to secondary then all AP need to download /install the new software from WLC and it will lead to dwontime of 5-10 minutes.
