Hello

We have two wireless controller still running some old software. A couple years ago, the decision was made not to continue running updates due to a couple issues.

1. The Cisco APs (Airnote 1200)

2. We do not have a current Cisco Tech Support contract

The first WLAN Controller is a 4402 running 7.0.235.3. Cisco has some newer software available for download. But, I am afraid of running the update and breaking the wireless network.

The second WLAN Controller is a 5508 running 7.0.112.21. The same thing applies to the situation before.

What does the community suggest we can do?

Can the newest WLAN Controller manage newer APs?

Depends on the firmware the WLC is running on. The Release Notes of every version have a list of what APs are (and are NOT) supported.

What does the community suggest we can do?

The versions you've mentioned have several security vulnerabilities discovered. It's not our call to dictate or recommend if there are no funds available to get a SNT contact to be able to download the firmware updates. It's up to management to assess the risks that the vulnerabilities will not be used to compromise the network (and doesn't wind up in the public domain or, worst, the news).
