I am in the process of adding the g radio upgrade kit, AIR-MP21G-A-K9 to an older Aironet 1200 b radio. I follow the steps and then boot the access point. Everything comes up fine, but when I perform a 'show version', it still shows the model number as AIR-AP1230B-A-K9 and not AIR-AP1231G-A-K9. Why is this? Please hep!

It's still the same access point, you only changed the radio. The AP ROM is the same

Don't forget to update your IOS too if it's not recent.

Good Luck

Scott

Thanks Scott,

I just thought I remembered that when you upgrade the radio it shows up as a 1231G instead of a 1230B. Maybe I recall incorrectly...

Hi Blake,

I think that you are remembering correctly as far as this change to the AP 🙂 (But not in the actual "show-version")

My understanding of this procedure is that only the Compliance Label shows AP1231G. Have a look;

The AIR-AP1231G-x-K9 access point compliance label for upgrade radio modules (AIR-MP21G-x-K9). This module is used in the Cisco Aironet 1100 and 1200 series access points.

This compliance label is only required for customers who have access points originally shipped with 802.11b radios (AIR-AP1220B-x-K9 or AIR-AP1230B-x-K9) and who are upgrading their radios to 802.11g with the AIR-MP21G-x-K9 upgrade kits.

From these docs;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps4570/products_field_notice09186a00801f9d7a.shtml

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_quick_start09186a00800c7515.html#wp16160

Hope this helps!

Rob
