Application doesn't work in Wireless connectivity

Hi,

We have a problem with an application that doesn't work when we're connected to WiFi. I confirm that it is working well when I'm connected thru wired network. I confirm that our wired and wireless network is in the same subnet, therefore we're able to access resources and applications either wired or wireless. The application is IP Messenger (http://ipmsg.org/index.html.en) we're using this to send messages/chat to our users within the organization.

We have a configuration in WLC (Application Visibility and Control) attached. Other config is default. Would this be likely the cause of our issue?

Any help would be appreciated.

You can try and run "debug

You can try and run "debug avc events enable" while testing the application or disable the logical connection between the AVC profile and the SSID under the QoS profile of the SSID. There is an chance that the traffic is being profiled wrong, but personally I suspected that the application uses broadcast as method which is not being forwarded on the WiFi network by default. You can test this by enabling the option "Broadcast Forwarding" found under the "Controller" tab of the WLC. Make sure that this is only for testing purpose.

Besides your current problem, a general recommendation is to use dedicated VLANs for your WiFi clients.

Because you will forward broadcast traffic from the LAN to the WLAN clients, the channel utilization will be higher what basically means less capacity on the WLAN side. You need to gather some channel utilizations information from the WLC before and after to figure out what the performance penalty really is.

Hi Freerk,

You're correct that the application uses broadcast and by enabling "Broadcast Forwarding" the application works. However we see some issues again, if the (2) two laptop is connected to the WiFi they cannot communicate using the application. They cannot see each other. Hope you still have some inputs to help.
