Wireless During Operation Hours

Hey all,

Is there a way on teh Aironet 1200 to disable the Radio during times when no one is using it, such as at night time and weekends? I have not found any such options in the menus.

Well, you can always manually disable the radios at night, which would save a lot of power. You could probably use an SNMP manager or scripting server to do it automatically. You can't have it disable the radio when no clients are around, though, because then no one could associate to it.

I believe this feature is built into the new 5.2 UW code, if you're running LWAPP.

If you're running IOS, a script, or a product like Kiwi CatTools, is probably your best bet. Or possibly a WLSE - I know you can set a batch template to fire at a scheduled time in WLSE, although I'm not sure if you can set it to recur.

The Scheduling Radio Status was added in WCS 5.1. If you have 3705Es with Cisco Enhanced Power APs (1250s running 2x3) you could use up to 20W for each AP.

Scheduling Radio Status

To schedule a radio status change (enable or disable), follow these steps:

Step 1 Choose Configure > Access Points.

Step 2 Choose the check box for the applicable access point(s).

Step 3 From the Select a command drop-down menu, choose Schedule Radio status.

Step 4 Click GO.

Step 5 Choose Enable or Disable from the Admin Status drop-down menu.

Step 6 Use the Hours and Minutes drop-down menus to determine the scheduled time.

Step 7 Click the calendar icon to select the scheduled date for the status change.

Step 8 If the scheduled task is recurring, choose Daily or Weekly, as applicable. If the scheduled task is a one-time event, choose No Recurrence.

Step 9 Choose Submit to confirm the scheduled task.
