Problem: Toshiba Tecra 8200 Wireless LAN Card successfully associates with Cisco 1100 AP using 128bit WEP key however the client fails to obtain an IP address from DHCP server on the same physical LAN as the AP.

If I view the association detail on the AP I see the client with the following stats:

Total Packets Input 69 Total Packets Output 29

Total Bytes Input 10170 Total Bytes Output 766

Duplicates Received 0 Maximum Data Retries 0

Decrypt Errors 35 Maximum RTS Retries 0

MIC Failed 0

MIC Missing 0

I've also tried using a static IP address on the client but the AP still shows an IP of 0.0.0.0 for the association.

Other laptops (including the Tecra 9000) work on the same AP.

Any suggestions?

Scott

Thanks for your response.

Yes - I've tried various versions including the latest from agere and toshiba. All yield the same result.

No firewall or port blocking.

I just tried setting the AP to no encryption and it worked OK.

No VLANs.

I guess this NIC isn't handling the WEP encryption properly thus the decrypt errors. Let me know if you think there are any other drivers that I should try.

Thanks again.

With static WEP, this is almost always caused by a mismatch in the keys between the AP and the client.

You are not getting a response from the DHCP because essentially the AP is dropping all your traffic due to the key mismatch.
