topic Can't edit/delete provisioned device in Controllers

Hi all,

Currently I'm facing a weird issue within the Plug and Play application of APIC-EM.

I had pre-provisioned a switch-stack and when the device still had the status 'Provisioned', I factory defaulted the stack and removed the master-switch (On which APIC-EM connects, as that serial number is registered for the stack) and placed a new member-switch in the stack.

The new stack powered up and gained a DHCP lease, connecting to the APIC-EM server and registering itself as an unclaimed device, the device has been added to the same project as the old stack. The newly added switch is now the stack-master (due to the lower mac-address) and was provisioned correctly. Strangely the APIC-EM server did not show it as a stack, but only as a single switch, off course that's strange but not the main issue. (Maybe a known issue, that it cannot handle the same MAC address/serial number registered on two devices at the same time, on the controller?)

My main issue is the following, the firstly provisioned switch-stack, still having the status 'Provisioned', can't be edited or deleted within APIC-EM..

I know a device has to be 'Reset' in order to change it's configuration, when I select the device and click 'Reset', nothing happens.. So the status stays 'Provisioned'. As I was not using this stack anymore, I tried to delete the device from the controller, but also then nothing happens.

Due to the fact that deleting the device isn't working, I have already tried the following:
1. Disabling the PnP application from the APIC-EM webpage, no success.

2. Rebooting the APIC-EM controller appliance from my VM server.

After the reboot of the APIC-EM controller, the device still shows as 'Provisioned' but still unable to delete it.

Anyone has any tips on how to delete the device?

This environment is a test environment and I'm pleased to help to find out the cause this is happening!

I can see how this could cause problems.

A serial number can only be present in one rule on the controller.

Stacks offer up all of the serial numbers as potential candidates and the controller matches the first one.

Deleting a project will force the deletion of all of the rules in that project, which will resolve the conflict.

Adam
