Hello,

The Internet Archive/web.archive.org can be used to bypass OpenDNS content filtering by utilizing the "wayback machine". Since this behavior is similar to a Proxy or Anonymizer service, we have categorized this domain as such.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Best regards,

Hi Michael,

I understand that this is the case for web.archive.org, but I have it unchecked and I still can't use it. Is web.archive.org unblock overridden because it is considered a Proxy/Anonymizer?

Thanks,

Did you mean you have unchecked the category Proxy/Anonymizer by "I have it unchecked"? If so, did you flush your two local caches after the settings change? You must do this once after changes, else you will still be served out of your caches until these caches expire.
https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/227988627

If it is not this, copy & paste the complete plain text output of the following diagnostic commands to here:

nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.
nslookup web.archive.org.

Hi rotblitz,

Yes, indeed, I meant that I have the Proxy/Anonymizer unchecked.

No I did not flush the caches.

I did however inadvertently fix the issue. I reconfigured my router to point to my ISP's DNS. That, of course enabled me to access web.archive.org. Then I switched back to OpenDNS, but I used 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 rather than the original setting that I had of 208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123.

After that change I was able to access web.archive.org.

Thank you for the information. Next time I make I change to the categories I will clear the cache using the instructions you provided.

Thanks,

-Pierre

"208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123"

That explains everything. These FamilyShield resolvers block adult content and the Proxy/Anonymizer category generally, regardless of what you have configured at your dashboard...
