Hello,

I've just reset my laptop (Mac, last OS version) to factory settings. I already used OpenDNS, but can't find the password I was using before the reset.

Now I want to use OpenDNS again, but I'm stuck at the step where I need to enter my IP address to create a network - OpenDNS just tells me the IP address is used already.

Does anybody know how I can bypass it, one way or another?

Thanks!

Forgotten passwords can be recovered at the sign in page by clicking on the "I forgot my password link". If you do that you'll be able to sign into the account and get things reconfigured.

However, if you create a new account while your current IP address is assigned to the other account you can either try to get a new IP address, or you'll have to open a support ticket with OpenDNS to have them remove the IP address from the other account. Assuming you are using a free OpenDNS Home account it can take up to 3 business days before they even respond to you, and depending on their workload could take even longer.

I'd recommend making the effort to recover the old password rather than waiting days for them to respond to the support ticket.

I really can't recover the password. The whole point was to make it unaccessible, but I didn't think about what would happen when resetting my laptop..: I used an email address which I can't access anymore (I deleted it since then), to make sure OpenDNS would be unviolable on my laptop. I guess it worked all too well.

I'll try to change my IP address manually, and if it doesn't work, I'll send OpenDNS a request. I don't mind if it takes a few days.

Thanks for you help! 🙂
