The IP Network Module (IPNM) of the Cisco ASR1002 refers to the integrated Route Processor (RP) and Embedded Services Processor (ESP) within the chassis, which handles packet forwarding, routing, and network services.

Unlike larger ASR 1000 series routers that support modular Route Processors (RP) and ESPs, the ASR 1002 has an integrated design with the IP Network Module combining these functions. This means:
- Control Plane (Route Processor, RP): Manages routing protocols, control traffic, and high-level processing tasks.
- Data Plane (Embedded Services Processor, ESP): Handles high-speed packet forwarding, QoS, NetFlow, encryption, and other services.
- Fixed Architecture: Unlike ASR 1004/1006/1013, where you can swap out RPs and ESPs, the ASR1002 has a built-in ESP that cannot be upgraded separately.
