Fabric upgrade from 4.2.x to 5.2.x - Any known impact?

Hello - we are looking to upgrade to current recommended release, currently on the 4.2.x version.

We have thought this might be good time to get up to the most current release with 5.2.x.

Does anyone have any insight on issues encountered upgrading from these two versions?  Do we need to go to 5.x.x before moving to 5.2?

Any known videos showing demos of the new features in 5.2.x?  I have read through documentation on new features but nothing in detail on where they might have changed gui locations for elements we already use, bury elements under new sub-trees, etc.   (example would be similar to how setups for L3Outs were displayed in the gui on older APIC versions compared to 4.2.x - was quite a bit different look and feel to get around to create the same connection).

Hoping for anyone with experience in upgrading between these versions might be able to provide some insight.  Thank you!!

I have some customers which upgraded from 4.2 to 5.2 and no issues were observed.

Of course, my recommendation is to always check the:

  • upgrade matrix:

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/Website/datacenter/apicmatrix/index.html (there is a list of open bugs once you select the upgrade path - make sure you check it out)

  • upgrade guide:

  • release notes of target image

Stay safe,

Sergiu
