ACI spine and leaf switches convertible to a normal NXOS switch?

We have a couple of ACI spine and leaf switches (nexus 9300 and 9500 series) in our environment and the business changed its mind and they don't want to go with ACI anymore. Now we want to rebuild them as normal NXOS switches and use them in an ordinary core/distribution/access structure, is it doable or there is limitation in doing so? is it doable for both spine and leaf switches?

Hi,
it depends on the linecard you have on the 9500. FX and EX typically work in both ACI and NXOS. Older LCs don't.

You can check here:https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/switches/nexus-9000-series-switches/models-comparison.html
May I ask why NXOS is considered rather than ACI?

Nic

Hi Nic,

Thanks for the response.
Our company has decided not to proceed with ACI and move everything onto the cloud, so now we have two options, sell those ACI devices or convert them and use them as normal network devices in standalone mode.

Do you also know if we can convert the APIC devices into bare metal c-series servers and use them to install hypervisor on them as normal server?
