Can an EIGRP L3Out be used in Multipod ACI configuration?

We are attempting to configure L3Outs in our multipod ACI system. According to my research, only one EIGRP L3Out can be used in a VRF. This brings me to several questions:

  1. Can an EIGRP L3Out be used in a multipod environment?
  2. Should we use EIGRP as the L3Out?
  3. Should we create another VRF in the same tenant?

Opinions and suggestion would greatly be appreciated.

Hi Thomas Johnson ,

  • Only one EIGRP L3Out can be deployed on a border leaf per VRF. This is because one EIGRP L3Out represents one EIGRP AS.
  • You can use EIGRP, OSPF, BGP and static routes L3Out based on your needs and preference.
  • In case the communication needs to be between two L3Outs instead of a normal EPG, advertising external routes from one L3Out to another is required. This is called Transit Routing.

Also you can find more in this link:

ACI Fabric L3Out Guide

**** Finally, you can follow GOLF concept, The Cisco ACI GOLF feature (also known as Layer 3 EVPN Services for Fabric WAN) enables much more efficient and scalable ACI fabric WAN connectivity. It uses the BGP EVPN protocol over OSPF for WAN routers that are connected to spine switches.

I hope it will be useful

Thanks,

Ali
