Linecard upgrade leaves invalid-paths where portcounts were reduced (F1209)

When upgrading from a 36-port linecard to a 32-port linecard on a 9508 chassis, the reduced ports (33-36) are left in a invalid-path state.

Apparently the fabric is still trying to configure these ports, raising fault F1209:

How can these policies be removed, now that ports 33-36 do not exist or show up to be assigned or modified?

Looks like this might be CSCwb49743.  The status is "Fixed" but it doesn't say in what release.  Affected release is 4.2(7f).
