nexus N9K-C9336C-FX2 to connect on server with 1G RJ45 port

We are using nexus N9K-C9336C-FX2 as leaf in our ACI fabric and want to connect server having port with 1G capability. We are using RJ45 cable at server side. from cisco specification i got to know that this switch supports 1/10/25/40/100-Gbps Ethernet speed. Can someone suggest what speed i should choose on switch side and what cable and transceivers i can use connecting server to switch. keep in mind that on server end i have to use rj45 cable.

Yes server is 1 GB-should i use speed in link level policy as 1Gb or 40 G /100 GB if QSA will negotiate the speed diffrences.

I would like to cross check the model again  as below : as per the model it support only 40/100GB

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/nexus-9000-series-switches/datasheet-c78-742282.html

You need  Cisco 1000BASE-T Copper SFP ( GLC-T) on nexus side to connect 1GB Copper to server.

Some time on nexus side you need to configure speed 1000 ( since it multi capable) - it should auto detect, in case issue you need to setup port speed.

check compatible matrix before you buy :

Hi @gauravsingh44895

You can use a QSA (CVR-QSFP-SFP10G) + GLC-T on the switch side, only on ports 7-32.

This way you can connect 1G to your servers, with RJ45 cable.

For more details about the supported SFPs on N9K-C9336C-FX2, you can check this link:  https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?npid=47

Stay safe,

Sergiu

Thanks for your feedback.

Could you pleas let me know why we cannot use ports which are above 32. this switch have 36 port.

these servers are connected on port 33,34 for testing.when i tried adding these port into epg using static port assignment i am not able to see these ports in the path section.

i can only see maximum upto eth30.

is this because port 31-36 are by default reserved for leaf to spine connectivity.

here is the limtation and explained :

The Cisco Nexus 9336C-FX2 switch (N9K-C9336C-FX2) is a 1-RU, fixed-port switch designed for deployment in data centers. This switch has 36 40/100-Gigabit QSFP28 ports. The ports support breakout and 10-Gigabit with a QSA adapter on ports 1-36 and 1-Gigabit with QSA adapter on ports 7-32.

Can the CVR-QSFP28-SFP25G be used for this as well ?

Single 25G interfaces are not supported on that platform currently.  You'd need to use a breakout quad to get 4x25G  (QSFP-4SFP25G-CUxM).   That transceiver (CVR-QSFP28-SFP25G) will is slated for support for platform mid next year (2023).

Robert

Thanks Robert - can I use the CVR-QSFP28-SFP25G to connect to a 10Gb interface ?
