Customer has HP servers with Mellanox controllers.

Q. is Windows server with SMB Direct over RoCE attached to ACI supported or not ?

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/gui/config/guide/2-2/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_2/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_2_chapter_010101.html#concept_1F4E6AC2E38D4E889C60429EA33138B3

shows that UCS 2.2.4 supports RoCE of course for Cisco servers and VIC adaptors.

Hi Walter,

What are the requirements for SMB Direct over RoCE? As per my understanding I think it's only QoS and Priority Flow Control. ACI supports both of these starting with version 2.1(PFC).

Br,

Markus

Hi Markus

I believe RoCE is more than CE (Converged Ethernet=PFC,....). e.g. there is RoCE V1 = L2, and RoCE V2 = L3.

Cheers Walter.

Hi Walter,

So what are the requirements? In every documentation the only requirement is a lossless fabric.

Regards,

markus

Hi Markus

I know that RoCE is supported by adaptor vendors, like Emulex, Qlogic, Mellanox, and Cisco

UCS 2.2.4 introduced support of RoCE (only Cisco, VIC 13xx, adaptors, no interop with Mellanox, only W2012 R2, I’ve not seen W2016 support).

If it would only mean PFC, why is then the documentation and spec. of ACI not claiming RoCE support. See also my other post, regarding FCoE across the ACI fabric.
