Box-BOX redundancy issue on CSS 11500

I am pretty new to Content switching. I have a situation here at my office that I would need some help with.

I have an existing 11050 box that I am replacing with a new 11501 running ver 7.2 (the 11050 runs 5.0) and an additional 11501 to be brought in for redundancy later. I have configured box to box redundancy on the 2 boxes (11501 and 11050) and replicated the config. The only different config on the boxes are the app session IP and redundancy VLAN IP. I successfully replicated the config from the 11050 to the 11501.

I realised when I used the 11501 as backup and connected to it from the console all the services configured on it were down. is that supposed to be the case when a box is redundant?

When I forced the 11501 to be the master and powered down the old 11050, the services on the 11501 were still down. is there something am doing wrong here? I suspended the services on the 11501 box and made them active again but still the same result.

Could the problem be with software version on the 2 boxes?

Any idea on this pls?

Hi,

Please see that first of all it is not advisable to use two architecurally different hardware for running Box-Box redundancy and secondly the possibility of the software code on the CSS being different can not be ruled out.

Also see that if you were using any custom script as a keepalive for your services then make sure that those scripts are present in the scripts directory of the new CSS as well.

Though to say anything concretely and conclusively, your configuration from both the CSS would be required.

You can view information about Box-Box redundancy from the following link:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/webscale/css/css_720/advcggd/redndncy.htm

Please see that you can check for scripts with the help of the following command:

CSS# llama

CSS(debug)# dir c:/ap0610203/script/?

Assuning that ap0610203 is the image currently running on the CSS.

Raj

it's normal to have service down on a standby unint.

However, when it becomes master, do a 'show arp' to make sure the arp cache gets populated.

See if you can ping the servers.

Check your vlan settings on the CSS but also on the switch the CSS is connected to.

Gilles.
