Hello @Paul-Preatoni

For the part number SMC AMC520-N04B, described as an exhaust cleaner to ensure clean plant air and reduce noise pollution over 35dB, the appropriate HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) code would likely fall under a category for air filters or silencers used in industrial machinery. Based on the description, the following HTS code might apply:

Potential HTS Code:

  • 8421.39.8090: "Filtering or purifying machinery and apparatus for gases, other than intake air filters for internal combustion engines, other, other."

Explanation:

  • 8421: Covers "Centrifuges, including centrifugal dryers; filtering or purifying machinery and apparatus, for liquids or gases."
  • 8421.39: Specifically refers to "Filtering or purifying machinery and apparatus for gases."
  • 8421.39.8090: A general classification for other types of gas filtering or purifying equipment not specifically listed elsewhere.

Next Steps:

  • Confirm the exact HTS code with the manufacturer (SMC Corporation) or a licensed customs broker, as the classification can depend on the specific design and intended use of the product.
  • Ensure the code aligns with the country of import/export, as HTS codes can vary slightly between countries.

Hope This Helps!!!

Hi,

do we receive a new database with the new HTS code and part number?

Or can we amend the one in our folder?

Best regards,

Paul

Hello @Paul-Preatoni

do we receive a new database with the new HTS code and part number?

Or can we amend the one in our folder?

Whether you receive a new database or amend the existing one in your folder depends on your organization's internal processes and how you manage your trade compliance data. Here are the two common approaches:

1. Receiving a New Database

  • When this happens:
    • If your organization uses a centralized trade compliance system or software (e.g., SAP GTS, Oracle GTM, or other ERP systems), updates to HTS codes and part numbers may be provided as a new database or file from your trade compliance team, customs broker, or software provider.
    • This ensures consistency and accuracy across all departments and systems.
  • What to do:
    • Replace the old database with the new one, ensuring all users have access to the updated information.
    • Verify that the new database includes the correct HTS code and part number for the item in question.

2. Amending the Existing Database in Your Folder

  • When this happens:
    • If your organization manages HTS codes and part numbers manually (e.g., in Excel spreadsheets or local files), you can simply amend the existing database in your folder.
    • This is common for smaller organizations or when only a few updates are needed.
  • What to do:
    • Locate the entry for the part number (e.g., SMC AMC520-N04B) in your existing database.
    • Update the HTS code field with the correct code (e.g., 8421.39.8090).
    • Save the updated file and ensure all relevant team members are notified of the change.

Best Practices:

  • Centralized Updates: If possible, maintain a centralized system for HTS codes and part numbers to avoid discrepancies across teams.
  • Version Control: If you amend the database manually, ensure you track changes with version control (e.g., "Database_v2.0") to avoid confusion.
  • Validation: Double-check the updated HTS code with your customs broker or trade compliance team to ensure accuracy.
  • Communication: Notify all relevant stakeholders (e.g., logistics, procurement, and compliance teams) about the update to avoid errors in future shipments.

Let me know if you need help with managing or organizing your database!

Hope This Helps!!!
