Load services status for select best server.

Hi all,

I am very new to CSS and don't find much doc.

I need to balance 2 server HP with IBM WEBSPHERE Portal Service.

I need to configure my pair of CSS 11503 to .

I don't want use classic roundrobin for balance server but i think confiure CSS for see backend server and their application status for load balancing decision.

On configuration Guide i have see 3 method.

1 relative/absolute Loads for services

2 SASP for Load Balancing

3 DFP for Load Balancing

I have some question for this method.

How is best method?

How implement SASP or DFP Agents on my server?

Someone use this solution?how?

Do you have real example of active redundacy configuration?

Fabio,

number one rule of networking is 'keep it simple' [especially when experience level with the hardware is low].

So, I would say try first roundrobin and see what kind of results you get. You can always change the loadbalancing algorithm later on.

The 3 methods you are refering to are barely used and most the people who tried those usually came back to roundrobin or leastconn which is a very good solution.

The problem with DFP is that it requires a software on the server and Cisco does not provide such software and the only other vendor doing it does not sell it anymore from what I was told.

The ACA algorithm is quite complex and may give very bad results in some circunstances.

Finally, I think there is extensive documentation for the CSS. I would even say the problem is too much documentation instead of not enough.

thanks soo much for your help...but my customer have bought CSS for replace old LOCAL Director 416 and use one of that method for increase web performace.

Must I tell him that these functions are unusable?

The best solution remain the round-robin?

yes, roundrobin is most of the time good enough.

Leastconn is sometimes a better solution.

But definitely not the solution you have suggested.

I'm not sure of the reason to switch to CSS from LD.

Definitely the hardware will give you better performance and more features [like cookie stickyness].
