I understand that the docs say do not run VRRP over the GE interface. What is the reasoning for this? I have two 11503's with basic config. Which means no FE int's. Is there another way to go about running VRRP without buying another module? Thanks

Correct.
The statement only apply to box-to-box redundancy.
It should work with other type of redundancy.
FYI, box-to-box redundancy also use VRRP.

My understanding is that you can't use a gigabit interface for the "box-to-box" redundancy connection. (Not sure if this is actually VRRP or not...)
With a VIP/Interface redundancy connection, I don't know of any reason why you couldn't have your virtual-routers use gigabit interfaces.
I'm planning on doing this with my 11503's.
