FindIT 2.x

Perhaps slightly off-topic, but can Cisco share plans for the future of the existing FindIT 2.x?  The new system has lots of promise; however, at ~3GB and requiring a hypervisor, it's not a simple download, install, and discover Cisco devices product.  It's much more of a long-term management tool rather than a discovery tool.  It would be a mistake if Cisco were to discontinue the existing product in favour of the new one.  Perhaps renaming the existing one FindIT Lite, but definitely keeping it in the production line.

No plans to kill off the existing tool.  The use case for the utility is no less valid today than it has ever been, and the utility continues as part of the portfolio.  And we do have definite plans to enhance it further.  The Agent code was actually built using the FindIT 2.0 utility code as a starting point, and we are looking at pulling some of the agent functionality back into the utility - things like the topology and device information screens and so on.  But the utility will not change to a VM model, nor should it grow substantially in installer size.

These plans will all take a little time, as the utility is maintained by the same team that is building FindIT Network Manager, but there is definitely no intention of killing it off.  Quite the opposite.

Cheers,

Dave.

Excellent!
