How to reset the Blocker

Mickelkel

I made a mistake in configuring the listeners of the Blocker , I unchecked services on the listener interface both incoming and outgoing.

So now the management ip of the unit is pingable but no services are available. Is there a way to reset it to default physically ?

Thank you

Mickekel

Unfortunately there is no reset button for the Blocker. Did you disable all services? If telnet is still enable you can turn back on the services that way.

Brian

Yes i disable all the services on both interfaces, and the only open port is SMTP on the outgoing interface (Nmap port scanning).

What can i do ?

Thanks

Hi Mickekel,

I assume you've nmap'd both interfaces?

All methods of resetting the blocker require one of those management ports to be open. I have tried connecting to the serial port and I am not getting any response from it. In the off-chance that the Blocker I'm using in the lab simply has a bad serial port, you can try using these settings in your preferred terminal emulator (HyperTerminal, Putty, etc...):

Bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: Hardware (RTS/CTS, DSR/DTR)

If you gain access, you can turn on the management services for the interface of your choice by typing "interfaceconfig," and following the prompts.

If this does not work for you, we will need to look into an RMA.

Hi dzavasni,

Yes I scanned the two listeners

I willl try to do it in 3 weeks when i will be back from holidays.

I hope your solution works. This would help to reset the  box easily in this kind of situation.

Thank you

In the event network connectivity is not an option for administering your Blocker appliance, you may also connect directly to the unit's COM port using a null modem cable (9-pin serial) in order to establish a command line interface (CLI) session.  This is particularly useful during the initial configuration process of the device.  In order to proceed, you will need the following:

    *  9-pin female-to-female serial cable (null modem)

    *  Serial console client (such as HyperTerminal or PuTTY)

Please use the following procedure as a guide:

   1. Connect your laptop (or other client device) to the serial port on the back of the unit using a standard 9-pin null modem cable.

   2.  Launch your preferred serial console client. Specify the appropriate COM port to use on your local machine, and use the following settings for the connection:

      Bits per second: 9600

      Data bits: 8

      Parity: None

      Stop bits: 1

      Flow control: Hardware (RTS/CTS, DSR/DTR)

   3. Once the session has been opened, you may need to press Enter a few times to trigger output. A log in screen should appear.

   4. Log in using your appropriate credentials.

Once you are in the Blocker follow the following example to enable services on which ever interface you wish.

Hi,

and waht can I do when I also misplaced my login credentials ?

Is there a way to set it to factory default or to recover the admin assword ?

Jo

Unfortunately there is no reset that you can do if you have forgotten or misplaced your login information. You will need to contact Cisco Small Business Support and open a case so that we can reset your login information.

Hi All,

And what to do if we get errors while trying to reset the blocker...

When we try to do it through webUi we get(error in the attachement).

When we try to do it through CLI, we get:

cisco.example.com>

cisco.example.com> resetconfig

The resetconfig command only works in the offline state.  Type 'suspend' to
go offline.
cisco.example.com> suspend

Enter the number of seconds to wait before abruptly closing connections.

The blocker won't go to the suspend state due to mentioned errors.

What can be done to get such blocker working?

That blocker is testing unit that got back from tests at our partner.

Best Regards,
Lukasz

Try the suspend again but this time do not give a value of 0 maybe allow the max, 30.

Brian

Hi Brian,

Thank you for suggestion, unfortunately we still get the same error:

cisco.example.com>

cisco.example.com> suspend

Enter the number of seconds to wait before abruptly closing connections.
