Wireless throughput

Guys - anyone tested the speed of throughput with wifi yet?

I just tried to copy from a laptop on "G" to my nas. but i wasn't impressed at all.

1.6gb with about 4000+ images and itune database files.  throughput started at 1.7MBs then dropped to 700KBs. for 90% of the copy.

this was from a Laptop on 54G using windows 7.  I mapped a drive to my nas.

using a main PC copyin 4.6gb it averaged about 5-6MB/s

I dont know if multiple VLAN/SSIDs would cause the issue.  I have one other SSID which is broadcasting but no connections.  the laptop was the only wfi device on at the time.

Has anyone exprienced anything like this?  I remember in the early days of the Linksys WRT54G the "Wifi Spiral of death syndrome"  hope this is also not the case here.

Regards Simon

I'll test this with mine and report my results.  I'll be using 'G', Win7x64.

I don't put a whole lot of trust in the values that Windows reports on file transfers though, so I'll try and test from Ubuntu or something as well, see how the reported transfer rates compare and maybe also time the transfer independantly.

UPDATE: I transferred a couple of large files over wireless from laptop to desktop, and the rate maintained 1.9 to 2-ish MBs.  This was in Windows 7 x64, over 54G, with the laptop in very close proximity to the RV220W.  I don't have anything fancy going on with VLANs, and only one SSID is being used.  Also, this was with firmware 1.0.0.8; I'll try again with the newest version 1.0.0.17 when I get the chance.

anyone else had spiralling throughput?

Regards Simon

Simon,

I tried and I got a reading b/w 1.6MB and 1.8MB throughput for both upload and download b/w laptop and my NAS.

Please try again w/ latest fw 1.0.0.26 (https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-13863).

btw, is your NAS resided in same VLAN as wireless vlan (vlan1 by default).?

Don, yes at the moment i only have the one subnet for all devices.  for my nas to share certain media features (DNLA) it will have to be on the same subnet.  I may once i have my xbox on the lan put the nas, xbox and Dlink DSM-520 onto one subnet. for any PC/Laptop to access the nas it will be mapped drives and IP to its webgui interface.
