Cisco Unified Presence

I am working on my Cisco VoIP and when I followed the lab instructions to create a username and password to login to a Cisco 7945, when I attempted to login, I found out I needed Cisco Unified Presence.

Is this just "software" I can install on the Cisco 2911 router or do I need special hardware?

 Cisco IP Phone 7945G is an EOL product that you are able to use with the Cisco Communication Manager (CallManager) or Cisco Call Manager Express (CME is an IP Telephony solution that is integrated into Cisco Router IOS).

Someone told me Cisco has left the telecom market?

So am I wasting my time trying to learn Cisco VoIP?

How can I find out what kind of hardware and software a large company would use for their VoIP or SIP telephony?

Now that I have the CCNA, what should I work on next since I am making no progress on the Cisco VoIP other than setting up just the local phones?
