Here's a question we received on our traffic alias: "If we compare Per FTTx household data traffic, Germany has 75.2GB/month and Japan at 47.3GB/month. This seems counter-intuitive."

It is not unusual to see big differences in average GB per month for FTTx when comparing countries. In countries where FTTx is widespread, there are more average and low usage households on fiber because it is mainstream. This is the case in Japan, where FTTx penetration is over 70%. Most households in Japan are on fiber, and this includes average and lower-usage households. In Germany, FTTx penetration is under 5% currently, and it’s the heavy users who seek out fiber initially, so current fiber households in Germany are likely to consist of Germany’s heavy bandwidth users. (Note we include FTTH, FTTP, FTTB, and FTTN in our FTTx category.)
