HI, I have iSe with bug number CSCuz25672: % Error: Unable to launch ADE-OS shell. Disk full.
My ISE versin is 2.2.0.470.

Hi.
As there are no replies on this, it seems that there are no way to recover from this? Can this be avoided somehow? I had this issue at the lab and had to reinstall.

Hi Toni,
Effectively no answers, some people have same problem but no body has solution. And Cisco is sleeeping quietly. I think best solution is to work with another manufacturer.

Hi Philip
I have the same error you reported on a fresh new Cisco ISE 2.3.0.298 running on a VM with 600 GB HDD on SAN and the funny thing is I have just installed it 3 days back with almost no configurations and not a single authentication yet and that error appears.....WTF even with the latest greatest version 2.3 Cisco didn't fix this bug.
With Regards
Naser

Hello Naser,
Most of the time, this happens when your node crashed for some reason. It creates a "core file" that TAC can check later to provide a root cause. TAC can get acces to your node to transfer these files and clean the partition.
Have a nice day.

Hi dacabrer
Thanks for your reply, but do you mean to say that the error we have got "Error: Unable to launch ADE-OS shell. Disk full " is not related to the bug ID CSCuz25672 since we have the same syptoms and nothing to do except to rebuild the entire ISE node from scratch.
I don't know how Cisco TAC would be able to assist if the box is not accessible at all (SSH or GUI) and in console the node is in continous reload.
Please note that some of our customer discard the option to upgarde to Cisco ISE 2.3 for that reason and stick to 1.4 train

Hello Mohamed,
We have the tools to access your node even if the partition is full.
What I am saying is that your node (most likely) crashed. It created these core files that contains details of why the processes went dow. So... yes, this was documented as a "bug" but if you get the "Error: Unable to launch ADE-OS shell. Disk full " is because there is another (bigger) issue behind.
Hope that helps!

Hi dacabrer
Thanks for relying but your statment is confusing, this whole thread is based on people getting this error "Error: Unable to launch ADE-OS shell. Disk full " so we do have the (bigger) issue as you stated but I don't understand you answer about node being crashed and if i got this error this we have bigger issue.

I have same issue on version 2.1.0.474 that is supposed to fixe!!!

Thanks for your answers Dacabrer.

Hi LudovicDS
it is funny to see you hit this bug although in release notes for Cisco ISE 2.1 it was mentioned it was fixed even without applying patch 1
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/ise/2-1/release_notes/ise21_rn.html
Don't really know but Cisco really need to take this bug seriously

Hey LudovicDS,
Feel free to open a case with TAC. We will gladly assist you, check why the root partition is getting full and provide you a root cause.
There are a few reasons why the node might have crashed, but if it happened It will create many of these heavy core files with GBs of data that will trigger the "% Error: Unable to launch ADE-OS shell. Disk full."message.
Have a nice day.
