This is a problem for us as well. we have an open case with no idea on resolution. apparently the problem was fixed in an earlier firmware but because we're on 10.3.1sr4 we can no longer downgrade firmware.
we now have 5 of these 8831 and every one of then exhibits the same issue. we recently uploaded trace logs from the phone.

Did you ever get this licked? I have the same issue and I am on the latest firmware 10-3-1SR4-2-NA.

we're going through active debug with CISCO TAC on this. No ETA on resolution. We've had to downgrade our speakerphones to 7937 to get around the problem.

I've got a case with TAC open as well and it's a doozy. Lots of logs and things to collect. Ordering a few 7937 phones as well. Those were always a favorite of mine. The 8831 phone have been bad since install. Multiple complaints in quite a few conference rooms. Seems like it's the bigger rooms that suffer the most issues. In our experience anyway. My boss has an 8831 in his small office and never had any issues with it. That's my theory anyway on the bigger rooms with the 8831.

We downgraded to sip8831.10-3-1SR2-2 and the issue seems to go away. We also had success with sip8831.10-3-1SR3-5-NA.

Thought this issue started with 1SR2-2 or at least we started with that version. But sip8831.10-3-1SR4-2-NA is absolutely awful. Every single 8831 is really bad on every call with this version. I will downgrade just to get back to intermittent issues. If it works well I will advise.

Our tech suggested we downgrade to 10.3.1sr2 but downgrading failed
https://quickview.cloudapps.cisco.com/quickview/bug/CSCvf75169
Phones seem to have downgrade disabled.
will try downgrading from 10.3.1sr4 to 10.3.1sr3 and see if that smaller downgrade is ok.

I couldn't downgrade to 1SR2-2 but was able to downgrade to sip8831.10-3-1SR3-5-NA. On that now and I have a user (my boss) testing it on a live conference call right now. Hope, hope it goes well. But it won't the first time Cisco VOIP makes me look bad if it doesn't.
If the sip8831.10-3-1SR3-5-NA doesn't work I will try to downgrade to 1SR2-2 from 1SR3 and report back.

Conference call did not go well with 8831 on sip8831.10-3-1SR3-5-NA. Downgrading further fails and hits bug CSCvf75169. Trying a factory reset and have some 7937's on order. At the moment I'm stuck on
sip8831.10-3-1SR3-5-NA and can't change this. I do have a TAC case open and will ask them how I can downgrade further or what else to do at this point. Obviously plenty of others are having this issue. |

Just had a successful call on firmware sip8831.10-3-1SR3-5-NA. After I downgraded to the SR3, the subsequent call was still terrible. I read a forum post to perform a hard reset on the 8831 after the firmware change. Completed that and the next call was good. Not saying one call is a decent test pool, but it's the first solid call we've had in weeks. I am downgrading all my 8831's to sip8831.10-3-1SR3-5-NA and doing a hard reset. Will report back.

How'd you make out? So far all calls have worked out well and haven't heard of any issues. This is after downgrading to 10-3-1SR3-5-NA and a hard reset on all 8831's.

I haven't. No issues reported since downgrading to 10-3-1SR3-5-NA and a hard reset on all 8831's. Glad that issue is behind me. I ended up buying 4 - 7937 phones as a backup just in case this goes south again. I do like the 8831's though, glad they're working now as they should.
