@philip-NTT hi, install mode is efficient than bundle mode. cisco recommends install mode for all future deployments and bundle model will remove from future deployment soon.

Install Mode is better.

yes, you can upgrade directly from c8000be-universalk9.17.12.02 to c8000be-universalk9.17.15.03a.
As already mentioned install mode is always recommended.
