Kiva thanks the Cisco Support Community for supporting entrepreneurs and alleviating poverty worldwide!

There are over two billion people in the world who live on less than $2 a day – a number that represents the truly staggering challenge of tackling global poverty. Poverty is an incredibly complex issue, but it hinges on a certain essential truth: people are poor because they don’t have enough money to live a happy, healthy life. Making more money depends on what you can earn from your work, and yet most poor people are blocked from access to traditional banks, unable to get the credit they need to grow small businesses or start new ones. The opportunities to make a decent living just aren't there. That’s where Kiva comes in.

Kiva makes poverty personal. Leveraging the power of the Internet, crowdfunding, and 0% interest loans, we offer entrepreneurs all over the world the chance to forge their own paths out of poverty, one at a time. We partner with over 200 institutions in more than 70 countries to provide microloans (average loan size is $400) to those who traditional banks have decided are too risky to invest in. Our partners help us find these entrepreneurs – farmers, grocers, crafters, educators, innovators – and we post their loans on the Kiva site for the world to fundraise, for as little as $25 at a time. This also creates a virtuous cycle: every dollar that gets loaned will be repaid in full (we have a 99% successful repayment rate), allowing Kiva lenders to re-loan their money over and over again. This is what makes our model sustainable.

Donations to Kiva allow us to keep our platform running, provide support to our amazing community of lenders, borrowers, and volunteers, conduct due diligence on our field partners, and innovate on new approaches to microfinance. This Cisco fundraising initiative will help us to do all that and more. Your contributions are truly helping to break the cycle of poverty for people all over the world, not only today, but for generations to come. We can’t thank you enough.

With our deepest gratitude,

Kiva
