I was looking for some potential ideas of what do for a networking related final year project for university possibly using either opnet, packet tracer or both as i am finding it difficult to think of any ideas.  A project where research and information would be fairly easily accessible.

Some ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks

I am also currently doing my final year project.

You could set up a

  • networking inventory system such as Spiceworks
  • Network Packet Tracer
  • A quick FTP client
  • A stress test system, such as a DDOS system but allows network admins to test their systems.

Hope this helps.

Peter

Thanks for the post it sounds like an interesting idea. I am not familiar with spiceworks, how does it work?

My initial idea for this final year project was an investigation into wireless mesh networks, i was wondering what are yours throughts on this?

regards

dan

Yup..I'm agreed with Peter..Network Inventory System is a good platform to start. But you have to detail out the scop. Example :

Network Inventory System

- Module 1 = Online form to key-in network device (serial number, part number, warranty status, IP, upload picture, etc )

- Module 2 = Reporting System (by month, year, device warranty status, IOS status, hardware problem etc2)

- Module 3 = Any idea?

then you can move to Network Monitoring System. Detail out the scop.

- Module 1 = Network topology diagram status (red color = down, green color  = up, graft information, etc2)

- Module 2 = Alert system (display any problem issue - high utilization, looping, etc2)

- Module 3 = Reporting (weekly, monthly, year - system up/down, etc2)

ermm...anybody wanna to fire up this topics? more idea please... ;-)
