Hi @TRGDD

Please see the DNA Center Compatibility Matrix Tool for a list of supported devices and features along with DNAC and device recommended versions.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/cloud-systems-management/dna-center/products-device-support-tables-list.html

Also just to note - from my understanding, the first-generation appliance DN1-HW-APL has the same performance and capacity specifications as the newer entry-level second-generation appliance DN2-HW-APL. The only difference is that the second-generation appliance is based on the newer Cisco UCS M5 series servers. As a result, the generation of appliance does not currently have an impact on the recommended or supported version of DNAC.

Hope that this helps

This is the recommendation for SDA deployents, but what about the recommendations for non-SDA?

@TRGDD

My recommendation is to keep updating - it just gets better all the time. I am using a Gen1 appliance and I can't wait for DNAC 2.1 to be released. I had a quick test-drive of 2.1 in the Cisco dCloud (it's open to anyone with a CCO ID) - it's amazing. And the weird part is that it feels much faster than the appliance I have in my own network, (just one hop away) - I connected to the DNAC hosted in the Singapore dCloud  - have a go. I think you'll be amazed

I agree with @Arne Bier that your best bet is to continue to upgrade.  The suggested release as of today is 1.3.3.7.  A few things to note, if you reach out to your rep you can fill out a DNAC latest release access form to work on getting early access to 2.x.  Also, one of my customers actually just procured gen 2 appliances since the gen 1 have EOL on radar (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/cloud-systems-management/dna-center/eos-eol-notice-c51-742000.html).  Lastly, you can use this link for compatibility concerns as well: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/solutions/enterprise-networks/software-defined-access/compatibility-matrix.html

HTH!
