SD-Access Extended nodes

Hi expert.

I would like to know why we need Extended nodes switch in SD-Access to connect IoT device.

Why we cannot connect it direct to fabric edge switch?

If we talk only about network access, you can directly connect IoT devices to the fabric edge node directly.

In some environments, catalyst switches acting as Edge Nodes could not meet some requirements (like temperature, dust protection, etc), for that reason you can attach an extended node like an Industrial Ethernet switch to allow access of IoT devices (which are more suitable to work under specific conditions).

Hi,

The extended note feature is mostly used when you cannot install a normal Cat 9k switch with full functionality.

This could be because of requirements like passive cooling and small form factor like the 3560-CX.

Or the need for DIN mounting or extended temperature range like the IE switches.

Or maybe even economic constraints because of the prices of Cat9k switches.
