New version of Cisco proximity

Hi All,

Has anyone heard if there is a new version of Cisco proximity being released soon. We are currently testing it, but find it incredibly laggy. I don't want to start testing it with the wider office if I can wait for a better version that has a better FPS rate.

Would be good to know if there is a new version and if so what benefits it will bring.

Thanks all

Andy

The frame rate isn't likely to be improved at all with the way that the Proximity app works.  It essentially takes a still image screen capture, then transmits this to the codec over the network, then repeats the same process over and over again.  It's not a true video feed which is why it is slow, and has a delay as the screen is processed at both ends from the stills.

If you need to have a higher frame rate, you will need to either use a different product, or use a wired connection for the content you want to share.

From what I have heard through unofficial channels is that the old Proximity App is no longer being developed.  All the development effort has moved in to using Webex Teams as the client software for sharing content to both on-prem and cloud registered endpoints.

Thanks for the response. It's such a shame as it has the potential to be a really great product.

Does anyone know if this has been confirmed. We are currently using proximity but will need to look at alternative solutions if there are no plans to improve the frame rate.

Thanks for the response. Makes sense, we will look into alternative.

Does this apply to Webex Teams and Webex Meetings Desktop app wireless sharing as well?
