C3850 upgrade from 16.9.5 to 16.12.10a MD

Hello 

Can we directly upgrade from 16.9.5 to 16.12.10a MD for C3850? or any intermediate upgrade path is required?

Kindly help me with an answer

upgrade to 16.12.10a can be done directly from 16.9.5.

Is it possible too upgrade directly to 16.12.10a from 16.6.5?

Other question, IOS XE 16.6.9 is the last version on the 3850 that allowed RTU, anything after that is Smart Licensing.

Is it possible convert RTU to Smart Licensing?

Yes, it is possible.  However, the first reboot will take 24 minutes because there will be a mandatory micro-code upgrade.  Subsequent reboot will be five minutes long.

With difficulty and hair pulling, yes.  It is possible to convert RTU to CSL.
