[C3850] Upgrade switch software te get REP functionality ?

A customer has a Cisco Catalyst 3850-48T switch running software version 150-1.EZ5. (I don't know how to compare this old version numbering with the new version numbering...).
They noticed this switch doesn't support REP for the underlying network ring of several Cisco IE3000 switches.
Is it possible to upgrade the software version of the 3850 to get REP support? If yes, what software version should be used and what should be the upgrade procedure?

All the different names of software versions (Denali, Everest, Fuji) are quite confusing, can someone explain this briefly?

I hope someone can help me with this, thanks in advance.

Hi  there,

The earliest 3850 image supporting REP is 16.3.1 . The recommended release is 16.3.7

Regarding upgrade, download the universal image to flash and update the boot variable. Once you have booted into the new image you can then worry about extracting the image files and running the switch in INSTALL mode.
