In the above topology iosvl2-3 is the STP root bridge and it sends BPDUs out of G1/1 on the Po1 etherchannel group (LACP). When I simulate an outage on g1/2 everything continues fine. However, because the BPDUs are exiting out of Po1 member g1/1, if I take g1/1 down the other switches in the topology no longer receive BPDUs from the root bridge and elect a new root.
Likewise, continuous pings between desktop-0 and desktop-1 also go through g1/1 and those break when I disable g1/1.
Questions:
1. Other than configuring the port-channel between iosvl2-2 and iosvl2-3 as a layer3 port-channel (and bypass STP all together), is there a way for the root bridge to recognize that g1/1 is down and begin to send BPDU's out of the other port-channel member g1/2?
2. For the pings between the PCs, Is there a way for the port-channel to recognize that g1/1 is down and begin forwarding ping traffic out of g1/2?
Thanks!

That good'
Now for test you remove cable from topolgy? If yes then I face same issue before' these emulate programs not support turn down port if link is deleted.
So to test link failed ypu need to shut the port.

You need to plan where the Root bridge to be - rather auto election process, this will have convergency time so the network will loose the connectivity.

My suggestion you make 2-2 as root bridge with alternative option where you have dual links.

Here's the capture coming out of G1/1 before I shut it off. G1/2 only has LACP traffic on it.

as long as I shutdown both sides of g1/1 it would fail over pings and stp bpdu, thanks!
