Issue with shared lines and directory lookup

We are just starting to look at rolling out Jabber for Windows as a softphone solution for some of our users. The problem the we are running into is Caller ID related. Currently for areas that do not have dedicated phones for the employees we have always populated there directory telephone number with the primary number for the department in which they work; so you can lookup that user and find the number to call to find them. However, now with jabber using the directory for caller id, if you recieve a call from one of these numbers or call one of the numbers (internally), Jabber will lookup the number in the directory and use anyone of the names (randomly) returned to populate the caller id, instead of using the caller id information that is programed on the line within Call Manager. So instead of showing "Department A" you now see "User x" even though you might be looking for or taking a call from "User y".

Thanks in advance,

You didn't actually ask a question so I'm guessing at the answer.

This is working as designed. You need to either point Jabber to a different attribute that is unique (e.g. ipPhone instead of telephoneNumber) or remove these duplicate values from AD.
