I'm not sure about the licensing and ordering part, but from a tech point of view.

You just need to follow the regular IM&P install and config guides, you'll just configure the IM&P integration and give your users IM and presence capabilities.

Yes, you need the IM&P server for this.

You need to start by reviewing the Install and config guides, then the Jabber config guide

If you're going to use other Jabber client, remember, all you get is IM and Presence, no calls, call control, etc.

If you want any of those, you have to pay for those capabilities.

Oh I forgot to mention,

That from what I've read and understand, Jabber for every one basically starts with a CUCM and requires COP files to be dowloaded and applied to enable smart devices to make and recieve voice calls ( no presence or jabber windows/mac soft clients).

If presence is required and you want to use the jabber softclient (windows/mac), then you will need get with your account team to get the necessary licenses and presence server software deployed/intergrated.

Here's some really good info explaining the details, which is quite good.

And if your a Partner, here's some excellent sales and marketing Web casts.

And you cannot have CUCM 9.1.1 and CUPS 8.6, you need IM&P 9.1.1

Hi,

If understand the following cisco documentation correctly, the XMPP federation is only supported between 9.x or 8.x deployments, not 9.x to 8.x.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/im_presence/interdomain_federation/9_1_1/CUP0_BK_IB27169E_00_interdomain-federation-integration-guide-9_1_1_chapter_01010.html#CUP0_RF_X18F91C4_00

XMPP federation overview 9.x

IM and Presence                      Release 9.0 supports XMPP federation with the following enterprises:

  • Cisco WebEx Connect Release 6.0
  • IBM Sametime Release 8.2 and 8.5
  • GoogleTalk
  • (Another) IM and Presence Release 9.0                             enterprise

XMPP Federation Overview 8.x

Cisco Unified Presence Release 8.x supports XMPP federation with the following enterprises:

Cisco WebEx Connect Release 6.0

IBM Sametime Release 8.2 and 8.5

GoogleTalk

(Another) Cisco Unified Presence Release 8.x enterprise
