Question on Persistent chat rooms vs temporary chat rooms

Hi all, I have a question about persistent chat rooms.  We're thinking about enabling persistent chat, but in reading documentation on it it seems that enabling persistent chat removes the ability to initiate temporary (ad hoc) chats from the Jabber client.  Am I understanding that correctly, or can persistent chat be enabled without losing the ad hoc chat ability?

you won't loose ability to create adhoc chat group if you enable persistent chat.
