Just reading speaker notes for Install/Admin, slide 40, bullet point 4 talks about sharing the "application" and "common" directories.

Right, we recommend that when installed on a network, only those two directories are the ones stored on the network with links on each individual machine to these dirrectories. The builder.lock does matter, it is designed to prevent someone from installing the Builder on the network and using X-Windows or something to allow multiple people from using one licensed Builder.
