Dear Sirs,

We are trying to use  the camera's within a SDI environment, but are somewhat puzzeld by the standards the camera is supporting. We are not able to find in any document the SMPTE standard(s) the camera is compliant with.

Could you provide us with the relevant standard(s) complaince as well as which colorspace(s) the camera is supporting?

Best regards,
Robert de Wit

Hi Robert,

The HD-SDI output on the Precision HD camera supports the following formats as defined in SMPTE 274M and 296M:

1080p30, 1080p25, 720p60, 720p50, 720p30 and 720p25.

Output colorspace is Y'CbCr 4:2:2 (ITU-R BT.709).

Cheers,
David

Hi David,

We did some testing and scoping on the camera in house and came to the following results:

Signal on HD-SDI connector:

1080p@25 > working
1080p@30 > working
720p@ 60 > working
720p@50 only sync available, no image
720p@30 only sync available, no image
720p@25 only sync available, no image

Testing was done on s/n B1AB24B00055 h/w rev 3

Colorspace was indeed Y'CbCr, pitty that the HDMI and DVI connectors on the C60 are only accepting RGB connections and not the Y'CbCr colorspaces.

Is the above working as designed?

Best regards,
Robert

Hi Robert,

we are aware that there are some equipment that unfortunately does not sync well with the 720p @25,30,50 outputs which your are apparently experiencing with your equipment.

Regarding the color spaces, the HDMI input does accept Y'CbCr. However in TC 3.1 and below extended Y'CbCr is not supported, but TC 4 does.

Cheers,
David

I have a dealer asking if the "SDI transmits via the PSF 2398 standard"?

Thanks,
Justin

Anyone from Norway around to answer my question above?

Hi Justin,

I'm unable to find any information about this standard so I can't tell if we support it or not. Can you please specify what it is related to?

When it comes to resolution and frame rates, the HD-SDI output on the Precision HD camera supports the following formats as defined in SMPTE 274M and 296M:

1080p30, 1080p25, 720p60, 720p50, 720p30 and 720p25.

Output colorspace is Y'CbCr 4:2:2 (ITU-R BT.709).

Hope this information is what you are looking for,

Cheers,
Jonas

Some more info: It seems PSF 2398 is an interlaced standard. A Progressive segmented Frame (PsF) system shall scan a frame in the same manner as progressive systems, but shall transmit a frame as if it were interlaced. We do not support this.

I have also run into the compatibility issues with SDI outputs on the Precision HD cameras. Most of the compatibility issues come down to the lack of support for the 29.97 and 59.94 fps variations on the 30P and 60P modes. These are common formats in the broadcast field in the U.S. due to the NTSC legacy frame rates that most material still needs to be compatible with for SD broadcasts. Thus many broadcast switchers and other devices do not support some the full 30P or 60P modes.

I do need to install 3 PrecisionHD 1080P cameras in a C90 room and would like to use the SDI ports. In the past, I have seen a few glitches, flashes to black, when using these ports. Is SDI rock solid now with current firmware?

We are finalizing the solution for the problem you are describing and a new revision of the Camera will probably be available at the end of Q1 2011. There has been a hardware change so the old version cameras would have to be changed to the new version for the SDI cable to work perfectly.

Eivind,

If someone needs this functionality, do they need to purchase a new camera or will we be able to process and RMA and ask for a new rev camera?

Hi Justin,

If you experience issues with HD-SDI, you should contact TAC or sales support team in your region. They will consider whether the unit will be replaced through an RMA or not.

Cheers,

Jonas
