Hi John,

Can you please try downloading the OVA file from here http://developer.cisco.com/web/webexsocial-developer/webexsocial-developer-edition?

The above link contains the OVA file in zipped format. Please let me know whether you have any clarification on this.

Regards,
Ratnadeep.

Yes, it was successful.  In fact, I downloaded it more then once thinking that it was not successful because unzip claimed it was not a zip file and I had no md5 or checksum to verify it with.  Then I used the file command on it which said it was actually a gzip file.  So I used gzip and was able to uncompress it.  Then I still had no idea what kind of file it was at that point so I ran the file command on it and found out it was a tar file.  I have never run across a tar and gzip file that had an extension of .zip.  I have only seen them named .tgz or tar and gzip.

John -

The file is an .ova file which is a tar file of an OVF directory.  You can follow the instructions on the site for how to install the OVA file using VMWare Player or Oracle Virtual Box.  You do not need to unzip the files to follow these instructions - you can use the .ova file directly as downloaded.

Amanda, you are missing the point.  I have successfully downloaded, extracted, untarred the file and imported the VM.  The point is the file is named with an ambiguous extension.  Rather then being named wbxscdv30110000194.zip it should be named wbxscdv30110000194.tgz or wbxscdv30110000194.tar.gz to indicate that the file is a tar that has been compressed with gzip.  I appreciate that you have been so invested in ensuring that this issue has been resolved.  Thank you.

Thanks for the information.  I definitely see where the confusion is now.  The extension on the download file should be .ova.   I will make sure that this is corrected on the site.  Glad that you are up and running.

Thanks -
