Core Issue

After the Microsoft Windows operating system (OS) is upgraded to 2000-4.4, the server does not restart. The server does not even post or show the Blue Screen of Death.

Resolution

This issue is documented in Cisco bug ID CSCsh47276. A possible workaround for this issue is to execute the server recovery procedure outlined in these steps:

  1. Turn off the server, and disconnect all power cords and external cables.

  2. Remove the server cover.

  3. Locate the flash boot block recovery jumper block (J60) on the system board.

  4. Move the jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pins 2 and 3 in order to enable the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) recovery mode.

  5. Insert the BIOS recovery diskette into the diskette drive.

  6. Reinstall the server cover.

  7. Reconnect all power cords.

  8. Restart the server. The system begins the power-on self test (POST).

  9. Choose 1 - Update POST/BIOS from the menu that contains various flash update options.

  10. When prompted as to whether you want to save the current code to a diskette, choose N.

  11. When prompted, choose a language, from 0 to 7, and choose Enter in order to accept your choice.

  12. Remove the BIOS recovery diskette from the diskette drive.

  13. Turn off the server, and disconnect all power cords and external cables.

  14. Remove the server cover.

  15. Remove the jumper from the flash boot block recovery jumper block, or move it to pins 1 and 2 in order to return to normal startup mode.

  16. Reconnect all external cables and power cords, turn on the peripheral devices and, reinstall the server cover.

  17. Restart the server. The server starts up normally.
