Introduction

This document discusses about how to troublshoot the Cisco Meeting Place Express 2.0 Exchange Server integration error.

Core Issue

Unable to test the Meetingplace Express 2.0 integration with Microsoft Exchange after entering the Exchange Server Configuration information into Cisco Unified Meetingplace Express. When trying to test the configuration by pressing the test button, the following error message is received:

"Authentication error. Check the authenticated access to the Exchange Server for Microsoft NTLM authentication scheme".

Solution 1

As a workaround, ensure a new user account on Exchange for use with MeetingPlace Express for Exchange Configuration, with the following conditions met:

    • Ensure the alias is the same as the Actual user name, and does not use any  non-alpha characters.  For instance, Xyz User Alias XyzUser instead of something like, XYZ User Alias MPEAcct. Avoid 'xyz-user' or 'xyz.user' as the user alias, and 'xyz.user@yourdomain.com' or 'xyz-user@yourdomain.com' as email addresses.

    • Ensure that the user account has been logged into Exchange.  Configure Outlook Express or Outlook and log into that account at least once.

  • In the Meeting Place Settings, make sure that the Windows domain is entered in the NetBIOS format of the domain name (e.g. xyz), not the FQDN format (e.g. xyz.com)

Also, refer Cisco Bug ID CSCsm42684.

Solution 2

Perform these steps to resolve the issue:

    1. On the exchange server,go to Start > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

    1. In the left pane of Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, expand Web Sites > Default Web Site.

    1. Right-click the virtual directory Exchange and click Properties.

    1. In the Exchange Properties dialog box, click the Directory Security tab.

  1. Under the Authentication and Access Control section, make sure that integrated windows authentication check box is checked.
